Regensburg Dult

I heard about Oktoberfest, but I never heard of dults.  Apparently the dult in Munich is the most famous in Germany and its known to the rest of the world as Oktoberfest.  Every city in Germany holds their own dult.  I had never been to one, so Leoš and I decided to go to the one in Regensburg.  Leoš used to live in Regensburg and even owns lederhosen (specific type of clothes for the dult).  We stayed at his friend's house and all of us went to the dult together.  I didn't realize that it was also like a fair, so when we arrived there were many stalls and even several attractions people could ride on.  It was much bigger than I expected it to be.  Leoš's friends tried to reserve a table for us, but they weren't able to.  We walked around the tent area and somehow we found a table that wasn't reserved.  It was so nice that we were able to sit together and enjoy the dult.  In our tent there was the famous pole people try to climb and ring a bell.  Many people tried and some were able to do it.  It was quite fun to watch.  There was also live music and such a fun atmosphere. The waiters were able to carry so many beers at one time, it was really impressive.  I'm not much of a beer person, so I had a 500ml Radler, but in the same glass as everyone else.  It was nice to see that people didn't get out of hand and were able to have a great time together.  People were even dancing on the benches! There is no way that this could happen in USA or Czech Republic without people trying to break the benches.  It was a fun night out!  Prost!

Dinner in Regensburg

Leoš and I didn't go anywhere during the summer so we made our way to Germany for the weekend.  Leoš used to live in Regensburg, Germany so we went there to celebrate the Dult.  I wanted to make sure we had a bit more time in the city so we decided to go on Friday night.  Before going we went to get some burčak from a farmers market in Praha.  Somehow I attracted a bee onto my backpack and it stung me in the parking lot. After the mess with that, we made our way to Regensburg.  Leoš's friends made reservations at a restaurant and we were able to enjoy some nice food for dinner.  It was a nice way to start our stay for the weekend.

Raiz Opening

My friend and her business partner had their Grand Opening for their store on September 1st.  It was a HUGE success.  A lot of people came to help them celebrate.  They had violin players and lots of food and wine for people to enjoy. The Mexican ambassador even came by to wish them well.  It was a nice event and I wish my friend and her partner the best of luck!

Visiting Lucie

It was almost 6 months since the last time I saw Lucie.  She moved to her new house and it was about time that I visited her to see her new place.  It was nice to see her kids and the house.  After lunch we went on a long walk around the area.  We walked by the river and then stopped at a cafe.  The lemonades and dessert were great.  Then we walked through the forest to get back to Lucie's but the track was a bit difficult so I needed to push the stroller while Lucie carried her daughter.  It was a lovely afternoon.

                                                                            all smiles

Reunion/Laura's B-day

On Saturday morning I was walking around naplavka when suddenly a woman stopped me and asked if she knew me because I looked familiar. After looking at each other and thinking of the places we have lived around the world, we figured out that we lived in the same city in South Korea and had mutual friends.  I left Korea over 10 years ago!!!  Such a small world!!  We decided to meet up the next day to catch up and I thought a Korean restaurant would be the most fitting place.  After meeting with her I should've gone to Laura's surprise birthday party, but I got mixed up with the dates and all the messages that I received.  However, I was able to go to the birthday party she had planned.  She was able to have 2 birthday parties, so at least I didn't miss the main one.  Since she had a good number of people show up to her party, she was able to get 2 liters of frozen margaritas for free!  It was a nice evening with good company.  Happy Birthday Laura!

                                                                  what was this van thinking?
