Tidssi (Morocco)

I had wanted to visit the mountains in Morocco, so my friend made it possible.  He told me that there can be snow in the mountains.  I had no idea that there is snow in Morocco.  I told him that I had to see with my own eyes and that I wanted to make a snowman.  It wasn't the easiest to get to.  We went with one of his relatives and stayed with that relative's relatives.   I got to stay in a secluded village in the mountains.  The view from the village was amazing. The stars at night were breathtaking.  I don't think I have ever seen stars so beautiful.  There was very little light pollution. I felt very lucky that I got to stay in the village.  I had no idea villages like the one I went to existed.  When we hiked up the mountains, we were the only "visitors" to the mountain besides a man with his mountain goat.  My friend's relative was like a mountain goat.  He was able to jump and run up the mountain so easily.  I gave him my camera to take photos of  the peaks that I couldn't get to.  They were quite awesome!  When I google Tidssi it only shows the location on the map, but all the pictures do not actually show the village, so I really got to go somewhere tourists have never been to before.  The SIM card I had in my phone (Inwi) didn't get reception in the village.  I had to climb up a steep hill in order to get reception.  Since we couldn't use the internet for entertainment at night we played Czech games I brought and also made origami with the paper I brought.  It was truly an amazing experience.  I am go grateful to have been able to visit!!!   (photos are a bit out of order)

delicious food and smiles (Morocco)

My friend's grandmother had such a cute smile, so I had to take her photo again.  In her first photo she looked quite serious, so I asked her if she could have a nice BIG smile :)   The picture that shows me wearing a hat is a hat from the most northern part of Morocco.  The family actually gave me the hat as a way to remember them. The grandfather that is pictured does the call to prayer at the local mosque.  He has been doing the call to prayer for 36 years!!  The call to prayer is 5 times a day!!!  On the times he can't do it someone else takes over, but still quite impressive that he has being doing it for 36 years!!! The first photo of food doesn't look like much, but it was absolutely delicious!!!

Lake in Ait Ourir (Morocco)

After the hike up the steep hill we continued walking around Ait Ourir.  I got welcomed with food and tea.  Then we walked to a lake in Ait Ourir.  We had to walk through a village and then through beautiful terrain.  Finally we got to the lake.  It was really beautiful.  Lots of people were there hanging out and enjoying the beautiful weather.  When I got back to the village I met a lot more family members and got a lot of great pictures.  Everyone was full of smiles and good humor.  It was nice meeting everyone.

Ait Ourir (Morocco)

I had a delicious breakfast and then lunch. In Morocco they dip their bread in argan oil.  I had never had it before and I immediately enjoyed the taste.  I knew that this was something I needed to buy. I had heard of argan oil for hair products or beauty products, but not for food consumption. It was delicious!!! I needed to rest in the morning and early afternoon because of all the walking I did the previous day. I went to Ait Ourir with my friend and got to stay at his grandma's house.  I was welcomed with food and tea.  The next day we walked around the remains of a palace and then hiked up a tall hill to overlook the views of the surrounding area.  There were others who had hiked the steep hill as well, so I took their photos.  It was so surprising to see snow in the distance.  I had no idea that there was snow in Morocco. I only imagined the Sahara desert and no snow at all, I was wrong!
