A Student's Visit

A former student of mine (just a year younger than me) from my time teaching in Japan was finally visiting Prague.  She messaged me several times over the years saying that she would visit Prague, but this weekend she finally made it.  We started Saturday off by going to the farmer's market so I could get my favorite pesto bread.  Then we went to the castle.  By chance, on Saturday, Prague was celebrating Masopust and there were so many people dressed up for the occasion.  Just before leaving the apartment, I grabbed 2 small items we could wear just in case. I grabbed my light up glasses (which were not at all obvious during the day) and a knife going through one's head.  My student got to feel like she was a local because she had something on as well.  I decided that instead of actually going to the castle, it would be better to go with the crowd of people.  I happened to run into a friend and we joined her family.   It was such a fun experience being with so many dressed up people.  Eventually we left the crowds of people and did some touristy stuff. I showed her so many places on Saturday, probably too many!  Then on Sunday, we met for lunch at Cafe Lourve (where Kafka and Einstein used to hang out).  After lunch I took her to the exhibition at Kuthsthalle for a Japanese artist.  The funny thing is that she had to been to the exhibition the artist had at the Mori Museum in Japan in 2019.   It was quite an eventful weekend.

Galentine's Celebration

This was the 8th Galentine's Day Laura and I celebrated!  The bigger celebration was held on Sunday.  It gave people more time to bake and bring something to the event.  It would've been too difficult for me to bake and bring something on Thursday.  It was nice that Laura and I could catch up and chat by ourselves.  On Friday, Valentine's Day, Leos and I went for some nice food.  It was great to go out again for food in the Czech Republic and not get surprised with additional payments like in USA.  He gave me some Dubai chocolate because I  have been wanting to try it for some time.  The kind he got was really good.  On Saturday, Leos and I went for a nice walk in Petrin.  There was still snow on the hill.  When we got to the downtown area, all the snow was gone.  It was so strange.  On Sunday, I organized Galentine's Day with GGI.  It was the 3rd Galentine's I helped organize with the group.  Almost everyone baked something really nice and it was good to hang out and chat. My favorite flavor combo of the day were muffins made with earl grey and apricot jam.  It was a nice afternoon.
