First Snow and First Christmas Market of 2022

We woke up Saturday morning to snow.  According to Czechs, the first snow should come on St. Martin's day which was just a week ago, so I guess the horse might have gotten a bit lost on its way.  My parents saw the weather report that there was snow, so I woke up to a text message asking for pictures around the city in snow.  Leoš and I were planning on just going to Naplavka for the farmer's market, but now I had a homework assignment.  We decided to walk through Petrin first, then around the castle and finally made our way to the farmer's market.  It was nice that we needed to go on a longer walk because the snow was beautiful. We got toast with pesto and hot wine.  It was a great combination.  Sunday was the opening day for the Christmas market at Namesti Miru.  We had nothing else to do, so we made our way to the market.  It was much better than it was last year.  There were so many stalls and the prices for things were great.  I am sure that we will go to this market a few more times this season.

November 17th

November 17th is an important day in Czech History.  In 1939 there were student demonstrations against the Nazis and in 1989 it was the start of the Velvet Revolution which ultimately ended communism in the country.  The demonstrations started near Narodni Divadlo, so the roads are closed on the day and people can put candles for those who lost their lives.  This year there were a lot more tents and people walking around because the last two years were difficult with covid restrictions. After walking around the important areas, we went to a nice Czech restaurant for dinner.  We had to make a reservation and when we walked into the place we saw that ALL the tables were reserved!!!  Our meals were delicious and we will definitely go back.

Toast Master's Halloween Event

November 11th was St. Martin's day.  People in the Czech Republic eat goose to celebrate the day.  It is said that the first snow should fall on this day.  Luckily, there wasn't snow on the 11th.  Leoš and I went to a nice restaurant to eat goose.  On our way to the restaurant, we passed by Naplavka and decided to get some hot wine.  Leoš got the traditional red and I got rose.  Both were delicious and perfect for a cold night. The restaurant was quite crowded and it was good we made a reservation.  The dishes were beautiful and tasted great.  The next day, there was an event for Tokyo Bakery.  Since I have bought their items a few times already, I knew exactly what I wanted.  The melon bread is my favorite.  After dropping off the bread, we went for a walk to the castle and the fog was quite thick.  We couldn't even see the castle! Through social media, I saw that Chris Hemsworth was actually at the castle several hours before us and it was completely empty! I can't believe we missed him!   Oh well, next time!  We continued our walk to the downtown area and went for Korean food.  After dinner I joined Lavinia and her friends to a Halloween event.  I was quite shocked considering that it was 12 days too late, but I still brought something to wear.  It was nice to chat and hang out.  I had a nice time.
