Several people we met in Myrtle Beach told us that we should rent a car and go to Key West. It wasn't a part of our original plans, but since so many people insisted we thought that we might as well go. The difficult part was that it was a 4 hour trip ONE WAY!! We made sure to leave early in the morning so we would have plenty of time to explore. The first of the islands we got to was Key Largo. We didn't want to stop because we wanted more time on Key West. In our GPS we put Key West, however once we got there, we didn't know exactly where we should go. Luckily, my travel brain somehow led us to an area where we were able to park the car for free and were walking distance to the famous landmark of the Southernmost Point of the Continental USA. It was so good we didn't put the landmark in the GPS, because there was absolutely no parking nearby. There was a HUGE line of people waiting their turn to take a picture with the landmark. We were fine with just taking selfies with it. We were NOT able to see Cuba in the distance. We relaxed on a nearby beach and it was so nice that it was a warm day. We FINALLY enjoyed a day in shorts and t-shirts. After chilling on the beach, we made our way to Duval Street. I have never been to New Orleans, but it felt like it would be something similar to it. We of course had to get some key lime pie. It was really really good, but oh so expensive. We continued on Duval and came across a jeweler with a beautiful table of his handicraft. I really liked one bracelet, so Leos got it for me. The stone is larimar and comes from the Dominican Republic. We walked all the way to Mallory Square and went to a few stores. I bought a few souvenirs and then it was time to head back to Miami. It was such a nice day!!
