Happy Thanksgiving!!! (japan)

The last time I was in USA for Thanksgiving was 2002.  Its already been 15 years that I haven't been able to have Thanksgiving at home.  However, my mother will put some turkey in the freezer for me and I'll be able to have some when I go back home to California next month!  I always make sure that I am able to hang out with friends and eat a lot of food.  This year was probably the biggest potluck though.  We were lucky enough to gather at a friend's sharehouse and use the kitchen and living area for our Thanksgiving feast.  There were tons of great food.  The best was probably the candied sweet potatoes with marshmallows.  I had never had them before, but a friend made candied sweet potatoes and another brought marshmallows-so the combination was destined to happen.  Absolutely delicious!!!!!  After all the food we played beer pong and then flip cup.  It was so nice that all of us had the day off and it happened to coincide with Thanksgiving.  Hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving!!

Tokyo Talk interview (Ameyoko, Ueno)

A friend of mine was interview by Tokyo Timeout (a website to see what's going on in Tokyo) and referred them to me.  They asked me about my favorite area in Tokyo and I told them it was Ameyoko in Ueno area.  We had the interview on a cold day, but I was able to eat a taiyaki (fish shaped waffle with a cream filling) to warm up.  It was fun to meet the guys in charge of the filming and of course I had them wear my glasses!  My interview will be on this website in a months time.  Check out the website to see the other interviews they've had.

300 Bar Ginza Couchsurfing Meeting

Last month I went to a couchsurfing meeting that was at 300 Bar.  I had a good time and with my work schedule I figured I could make another event in the same bar.  However, my work schedule changed on Monday and now the location for the couchsurfing event wasn't in the most convenient area for me.  Before, the location was on my way home from work.  Now, I had to go 45 minutes out of the way to get to the bar.  I still had a great time though because I was able to see my friends and catch up with them, plus meet some new faces.  But with my new schedule I was a bit tired and had to go home early.  Hope everyone had a good time!!!   (On Sunday night, while walking around in Shibuya I saw a man that was dressed and armed with Pocky.  I said Pocky Man out loud and he came straight to me and gave me a Pocky.  I had to have him wear my glasses!)

Couchsurfing Meeting in Shibuya (monthly meet-up)

After work I walked from Harajuku to Shibuya.  I had to burn some time before the couchsurfing meeting so I did some shopping and went to an arcade.  The first arcade I went to I tried a UFO catcher machine and didnt have any luck with the 200 yen I put in.  The second arcade I went into I walked around and looked at the machines.  One machine looked as if the prize was really really close to falling down.  So I put my bag down and suddenly I saw the crane move.  I looked down at the machine and realized that my bag had actually pushed a button.  There were two credits left.  I had never played this kind of machine, so I failed the first time.  However, I learned from my mistake and won the prize on the second try.  I won without even putting money in the machine!  Victory!  Then I went to the couchsurfing meeting and met a lot of cool people. It was nice to go to the meeting because it had been several months since the last time I joined.

Kipposhi (BLUE RAMEN!!)

I had been wanting to go to Kipposhi ever since I found out that they served blue ramen.  I finally had a day after work that I was able to make the 45 minute walk from the office to the small ramen shop.  I got there a bit too early because they open from 6pm for their dinner service.  I walked to Asakusa and then back to kill some time.  Once I got back, there were people already in the place, but luckily there was still space for me.  I looked at the menu, but I was there for only one dish.  I ordered my blue ramen and watched the cook do his magic.  He had pink hair and took his time with every bowl of ramen. After my meal I asked the cook if I could get his photo and he was a tiny bit hesitant because he said he was shy.  I just had to ask again, and he was totally fine with it.  The ramen was delicious!!!  The broth was made from chicken unlike the normal pork broth.  There were several pieces of chicken and the egg was cooked to perfection.  It was a really nice bowl of ramen.  Next time, maybe I'll try the ginger one (it was pink).  I highly recommend this place!!!  Go check it out!!
