upper part of the northern island (new zealand)

Driving up to the bay of islands we past Paihia, the place where the treaty for New Zealand was signed.  After that went to Matauri Bay.  I'm sure that on a sunny day, it would have been amazing.  Unfortunately the day that I went, it was cloudy.  Then drove to the other side of the island to the beginning of 90mile beach.  That beach was quite impressive.  Then headed down and was able to see the Tane Mahuta tree (Lord of the forest).  The tree is 51.2 meters high and is 1250-2500 years old.  It was amazing to see such a huge tree.  It is the largest Kauri tree and is quite important to the Maoris.
