Tanji, Gambia

Leos and I decided that we wanted to go to the bird reserve in Tanji.  Our friend Pablo wanted to go with us so he could properly show us around.  The ticket for foreigners was only 35 dalasi, Pablo didn't need to pay because he is a local.   Since it was rainy reason and not yet tourist season, the reserve didn't clean up most of the paths and there was a LOT of mud around.  We had to walk more towards the beach to see a bit of the lagoon.  We didn't get to see as many birds as we expected.  We were the ONLY ones on the beach.  The weather was really nice, but then suddenly there were VERY dark clouds.  It did not look good.  I didn't bring an umbrella or my poncho and sure enough it started to rain VERY HEAVILY! We were getting completely drenched.  Luckily there was a shelter area where the local police were having a concert and informative talk.  We were able to hide under the rain while listening to some music.  After the rain started to die down a bit we made our way back to Sanyang.  In the village we decided to try some street food and  it was quite good!  Then we made our way back to the beach area and went to a VERY LOCAL restaurant to have a late lunch/early dinner.  It was good.  If Pablo wasn't with us, there is no way we would've known the place was a restaurant.  We made our way back to the hotel to watch the sunset and watch some people play football on the beach.  It was a nice day.
