warm winter's day

Earlier this week it really seemed that the winter chill was here to stay.  Then yesterday the weather completely changed and it was a warm winter's day.  My friend and I decided to take advantage of the day and go for some drinks at a bar with a patio.  It was a nice wednesday.

korean food and la piojera

I had a friend in town who has also taught in Georgia (the country) and South Korea.  It has been so great sharing our stories about both places.  And since we both appreciate Korean food, I decided it was about time I went back to the Korean restaurant that I know of.  We ordered a LOT of food and it truly felt like I was in korea again! I couldn't finish my food and I felt stuffed leaving the place.  It was all soooooooo good! I was able to get my favorite soup and the side dishes were pretty good.  Reading the menu in Korean was actually easier than with English letters because there were so many mistakes that I couldn't understand it.  After lunch we went to the Memorial/Human Rights museum, which was really really good and informative. We actually ran out of time and couldn't see the whole museum because they were closing. Then we went to the national museum really quick which was great.  After that we went to La Piojera to get a terremotto (a cocktail named earthquake).  The last time I went to that bar(and the only time I have been to the bar) there actually was an earthquake, and I didn't feel it!!  It was nice meeting some new people at the bar and I was also able to try a Tsunami(a different kind of cocktail made with mint).  Then I had my friend try a completo italiano ( a hotdog with avocado, tomato and mayonnaise).  It was a great day full of food and booze.

back to san pedro de atacama

On our last day we had to head back to San Pedro de Atacama and in order to do so we had to wake up at 4am to leave at 4:30am.  It was such a cold morning that all our bottles of water had turned into ice.  We arrived to the same hot springs place and had our breakfast there.  When we got to the Bolivian border it was freezing.  My feet were so cold and the line for immigration was a mess.  We had to finally say good bye to our amazing guide.  Then we had another driver take us to the Chilean border and then to S.P.d.A.   I met up with my friends and was able to walk around the city.  Then we went through the desert and got to see some hieroglyphics. The beauty of the desert was wonderful.  Then we got to see the sunset, which was beautiful.  It was a nice way to end my trip.

all of us together

day 3 uyuni tour

We had to wake up really early to watch the sunrise.  We went to Isla Incahuasi to watch the sunrise.  The colors were amazing and it was so great to watch the sun rise over the salt flat.  The scenery on the island was great with the cactus.  Then the guides played football against the tourists.  After breakfast we drove to a secluded place on the salt flat and took a LOT of pictures.  Our guide, Saul, had so many great ideas for photos and I got a lot of great ones.  After we finished our photos we went to a place with a lot of flags and then a place with a dakar monument.  Next we went to a small village that sold a bunch of souvenirs.  We had lunch in the village after we were done with our shopping.  Then we went to a train cemetery.  Then we arrived to Uyuni where we had to say bye to the Spanish couple that was in our group.  We had to wait in the city for 3 hours until we could go to the village where we were gonna spend the night.  When we got to the hostel we immediately had dinner and above my friend's head was a dead puma hung as decoration.  It was a very random piece of "art".
