Tanabata Festival in Hiratsuka

While trying to figure out what to do for the weekend, I came across an article mentioning the Tanabata Festival.  It mentioned that there was going to be a festival in Asakusa, but I have been there a good number of times already this year.  Also, with the hot and humid weather, I wanted to get out of the city and go to the beach.  Hiratsuka apparently has one of the biggest Tanabata Festivals and its only a 20 minute walk to the beach.  I went with two other couchsurfers to the festival and the beach.  They wanted to go to Kamakura and I just wanted to stay at the beach, so they left.  I had a very relaxing afternoon swimming and chilling at the beach.  Then I decided to walk back to the festival.  I had no idea that the decorations lit up at night.  The views were great.  And randomly I ran into some of my co-workers so I joined them for the night.  Then I saw two other co-workers and while going home on the train, I ran into another co-worker!  It was so weird how many people I ran into.   It was a great day!  I really enjoyed myself at the beach.  It was a great way to beat the heat!  I think I'll go to the beach again next weekend!    And I found out that the reason why my parents got married on July 7th is because of the Tanabata holiday!!!
