Last year one of my students told me about an ice cave that he had been to. He told me that it was the biggest ice cave in the world. I had never heard about it so I had to look it up and sure enough the largest ice cave in the world was just an hour away from Salzburg. I knew that the first trip we would take by car once things with the borders got better would be Austria to visit the ice cave. It was such an amazing experience going to the ice cave. It was stunning. The cave doesn't have permanent lighting, so we had to use gas lamps while we were in there. We were lucky that our group was "smaller" than usual (it really wasn't that small) because our guide let us take photos while inside the cave. Normally if the group is a normal size, photos are not allowed to be taken while inside the cave. We had to walk 700 steps up and 700 steps down. The cave is about 42km, but of course we just walked about 1km inside. I would recommend anyone and everyone to visit the ice cave. It was absolutely amazing and so nice to see nature at its finest. After the cave we went for a bit of a hike in the area and then we checked out a small town on the way back to Salzburg. There are a lot of photos in the post and not in order.
