Luckily our hotel had breakfast included so we were able to eat some food before heading out for the day. We didn't really know what we wanted to do, so we decided to check out the old town area. It was quite nice, but there weren't that many people out. We went to Bahrain during Ramadan. We didn't realize that everything was going to be closed in the middle of the day. We randomly walked around the city and came across the Pearling Path. It was great that we did, because it gave us a path to follow and we didn't have to look at our phones. The path was very well marked and was quite impressive. There were many locations where we were the only ones visiting. The city felt very safe and we didn't have to worry at all. There was an area where we wanted to swim, but unfortunately we weren't allowed to. We found a local place to have some dinner and it was pretty good. Then we walked to The Avenues shopping mall and it was quite nice inside. I was pretty surprised with all the different shops and it was funny to see a Canadian cafe in there. When we were trying to walk back to the hotel, we were having some problems finding a short cut and a super nice guy heard me telling Leos I wanted to ask a worker for help. The man pulled over and asked if we needed help. I told him we were looking for a short cut to get back to the hotel area and he said there wasn't one, but he would give us a ride there. It was so nice because we had walked all day and were quite tired at this point. It was so great to get help from a local and he told us some really interesting things. I had no idea that the population of Bahrain was 49% local people and 51% expats. I do not think I have ever been in a country where expats outnumber the locals. He also gave us some advice on where to go and what to see. It was so great to be able to have that chance to chat shortly with a local. Unfortunately, it was our only time the whole trip that we got to talk to a local. It would've been so nice if we had more chances. Hopefully next time! Thanks for your help Mr. Smiles!
