fishing in camarones, ecuador

For my full day in Camarones, my friend made plans for us to join his brother in law on his fishing boat. We had to get an early start to make sure we could catch some stuff. The main thing people fish for are shrimp. The town's name actually means shrimp in Spanish. It was cool to go on the boat and see what the guy has to do everyday. However, one time was enough. There involves a lot of waiting around. First he had to set out 4 nets and wait around for 30 or so minutes so the fish and hopefully shrimp would get stuck in the nets. Unfortunately we were not able to catch that much shrimp. We were able to catch one lobster and a handful of shrimp. The coolest thing I saw was a manta ray jumping out of the water. It was a really cool sight. After we were done fishing we went back to the house to enjoy our catch. It was so cool to catch the shrimp and lobster and eat them right away. They were delicious. Then we went to the river to go swimming. After that we went to a cacao farm so I could eat some of the delicious fruit. It was great. I had a wonderful time in Camarones.
