Saint Laurent du Maroni, French Guyane

This post is dedicated to my father because one of his favorite movies of all time is Papillon.  The movie takes place is Saint Laurent du Maroni at the transportation camp.  This is the place where the French put all the people who were exiled from France.  Over the course of the camp there were 70,000 prisoners sent here.  The prisoners were ranked on their crime.  Depending on the severity of their crime depended on how much work they had to do at the camp.  It was a small city that had a tourism office that wasn't even open due to lack of tourists.  The views by the river were nice, but more than a day would be too much.  After my day of walking around, I headed back to Cayenne.

went to sleep with this next to my head and luckily it was in the same spot when i woke up
