The second day on the Drake Passage was much easier for me to deal with. I decided that I needed to talk to the captain and get his photo. He was very nice and welcoming. We had a great conversation and he told me that he has been going to Antarctica since 2002!! He has had lots of experience with the Drake Passage and said that we were very lucky because it was so calm. They nicknamed it the Drake Lake because of how calm it was. We were able to make great time across the passage so we were able to have an excursion on our second full day at sea. We had a landing at Aitcho Island. We got to see lots of chinstrap penguins and elephant seals. It was so exciting being in the zodiac and finally getting off the ship. It was a wonderful start to an amazing adventure.
